This Physical Setting/Physics Core Curriculum is intended to be a catalyst for significant change in the teaching of high school physics. The primary focus of the classroom experience should be on the development of higher order process skills. The content becomes the context and the vehicle for the teaching of these skills rather than an end in itself.

Download Adobe Acrobat reader. Free software for viewing and printing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Adobe PDF files can be viewed on most major operating systems.

Openoffice A free program suite with functions similar to Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, Powerpoint, dbase, etc.).

Download Netscape browser. A free web browser

Download Mozilla Firefox. A free web browser that is more secure than Internet Explorer and has a better pop-up ad blocker.

Download Mozilla Thunderbird. A free email client that is more secure than Outlook.

Download Mozilla. The full Mozilla package including Firefox, Thunderbird, a chat client, and html editor. While most people only really need Firefox and Thunderbird, this is nice for the truly computer savvy.

Download Avast Anti virus. An anti virus program that is free for home non-commercial use. I highly recommend having anti virus software on any computer with access to the internet; especially those with broadband (e.g. cable, dsl) connections.

Download ZoneAlarm. A firewall with a free basic home version. Like anti virus software, it is recommended that every computer with internet access have a firewall. This prevents programs from accessing the internet without your permission and hackers from accessing your computer from remote locations.

Download Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. These spybot killers prevent companies from downloading your personal information from you computer and installing advertiser software without your permission. It is recommended that these be run at least once a week. Both are recommended as each catches things the other doesn't.

Macromedia's Shockwave Player. This is a free "plug in" enhancement for your browser. We use it for homework occassionally.Over 390 million Web users have installed Macromedia Shockwave Player. These people now have access to some of the best the Web has to offer - including dazzling 3D games and entertainment, interactive product demonstrations, and online learning applications. Shockwave Player displays Web content that has been created by Macromedia Director.
